A large wall of scaffolding has collapsed across Federal Square in central Auckland, near St Patrick’s Cathedral.

A construction worker at the site said the scaffolding toppled about 8am on Thursday due to “gusty winds”.

He said that “no one was on or under it” at the time.

“Now we’re just figuring out how to take it down,” he said.

The scaffolding was being used in the construction of a new apartment block facing Federal Square, on Swanson St.
